The phrase "First Lady" has been used for over 150 years to refer to the wife of the President of the United States. Many First Ladies were more popular than their husbands. Regardless of their popularity they all have played an important role in the history of the United States.
The information on the First Ladies is given in list form. I did this so students can gather the facts they think are important and incorporate them into their reports, projects, oral presentations, or other school related projects. I give the First Ladies, first name, her maiden name, her name from her first marriage if there was one, and her last name. Also, visit our section on facts about the U.S. Presidents. If you find an interesting fact about a First Lady or find an error please send it to me at jim@classroomhelp.com. Also, try to give me the source of the information so I can verify the information. Sources of Information: First Ladies : Women Who Called The White House Home: Beatrice Gormley, Scholastic Books. MEET THE FIRST LADIES (Teaching and Learning Company-written by Cindy Barden) Presidents and First Ladies. James Barber and Amy Pastan.
